“With an automated service like Remote Data Backups,
you can be assured that this mission critical task is occurring nightly. It is
also much more cost effective and reliable than manually using tape, zip, Jazz,
CDRW, or DVD drives. Once the service has been set up, it typically requires no
human intervention and requires no additional hardware.”

Setting Up You Internal Backup Solution
Our internet backup service is a set cost without any hidden or
unexpected charges. You can budget our service out for years in advance without
fear of cost over runs.
There are many costs and time-consuming
steps associated with implementing your own in-house backup system (tape, DVD,
Zip, RAID, SAN, NAS, etc.) that you might not be aware of.
Research Backup Solutions(time = $15 to $115 per hour)
- Researching for the best hardware
- Researching for the right software
- Researching who to buy from (best price, service, warranty,
made in USA, etc.)
Purchasing Backup Equipment
- You must buy the hardware (including shipping or store
transportation costs)
- You must buy the software, often times per user licensing is
required
- You must buy the media (tape, zip, CD-R, Jazz, etc)
- You need 9 sets of media, 5 for Monday through Friday and 4 for
an offsite rotation of week 1 through
- You must replace the media at least once a year for
reliability.
- Often you must purchase software updates
Backup System Installation
- You must install the hardware
properly
- You install the software
correctly.
- You must learn the software
- You must educate everyone else on how to use the backups
- You must test the backups for successful restores
- Pray that everything is setup correctly when you did it
Implementation /Maintenance
- You must remember to run the backup every day
- If you are not physically running your backups every day that
means you are not properly rotating your daily backups
a big no no.
- You must rotate your tapes or media every day for versioning
- You must take your backups offsite every day
- Periodically you must run preventative maintenance and cleaning
of the hardware
- Every year you need to replace your media for reliability.
Backup Plan Upgrades
- You will always outgrow your backup solution within a couple
years and will have to repeat this process again.
- Everything that you will have bought today will be outdated and
obsolete within a year or two and be worth nothing.
Data Recovery Issues
- The ONLY think that counts is a successful recovery when you
need it. If you cannot recover your data, then you will have wasted every
minute and every dollar you ever spent of data backups up until that
point.
