Frequently-Asked Questions

How do I get started with Exchange-SQL Backups software?
Register online free, and we automatically email you a link to download the software. If you don't receive it within a few minutes, please check your spam folder and white list emails from remotedatabackups.com. If you still don't get the email, please email or call us.

Once you click the download link, click Run, Next, "I Agree", Next, Install, Next and Finish. Then create a Backup Set by selecting your files, destination and schedule. Be sure to select the destination directory in the Backup view of RDB so the snapshot data gets taken offsite each night.

How do I get my ESBackup license to continue using it after the trial?
Just open the software (Start > Exchange-SQL Backup) and click "Buy It Now!".

Can I schedule backups?
Yes. Exchange-SQL Backup includes a proprietary task scheduler that allows you to backup daily, weekly, monthly, at system start up or log on.

When should I schedule ESBackup to run? Schedule your backups when the least amount of users are connected to your SQL or Exchange databases (generally evenings, nights and weekends). If you are running ESBackup with Remote Data Backups, we recommend scheduling it daily. Give the backup enough time to complete and create the local file prior to RDB's scheduled backup.

What type of backup should I run?
Keep your Internet upload speed in mind when creating backup files with ESBackup. The size of some backup files, especially full database backups, can be quite large. Ensure that RDB has time to transmit them offsite each night. If this is a problem, consider creating full database backup files before the weekend and differential backup files during the week.

Are incremental backups supported?
Yes. Depending on the type of file you are backing up, Exchange-SQL Backup includes the ability to backup using 7 different backup types, including ZIP and incremental. You can use the Exchange backup wizard to backup both on the full database and mailbox level. This will allow you to restore just one user's mailbox should an individual disaster strike. This will save time over restoring the entire Exchange database.

Can I compress the backup files?
Yes. If you have a large file, we recommend you enable compression and set a percentage. This will minimize the amount of time required to transfer it offsite, although the more you compress it, the longer the ESBackup process will take. We recommend monitoring it periodically to ensure optimal performance.

Can I backup remote machines?
A: Yes. Exchange-SQL Backup includes the ability to backup remote machines.

How do I restore my backups?
Very simply. Click on the “restore” button from the main GUI and use the easy to use file tree to restore any file(s)

Can I back up Network Drives
While ESBackup has the capability of backing up mapped drives on your network when you enter your administrative credentials, we recommend installing a separate account and NOT relying on your network connectivity when it comes to protecting your critical data. We are not responsible for common networking issues that occur (shared drive deleted, network cable disconnected, etc.)
Yes. Exchange-SQL Backup includes support for all the above media.

What are the system requirements for running Exchange-SQL Backup?
Pentium processor or above with Win 2000, Win XP, Win Vista, Win Server 2000, Win Server 2003, 64 MB RAM, 30MB free disk space, Internet Explorer 4.0.2 or later
